Ruby Jewelry – It’s precious

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

Ruby doesnt need any introduction it is one of the most precious stones, which can shine brilliantly in a necklace and at the same time glow with a subtlety in a ring. Ruby and red go together and it can ignite a thousand desires that will light your candle of passion without your having to say a word. Thats the magic of a ruby.

Being one of the rarest stones, it is precious and expensive but ruby has a beauty that cant be expressed through words. It represents a power that comes with the red color, the color of blood, the color of an enchanting sunset and the color of love. The best ruby though is the fine ruby, which is born out of chromium. What chromium really does is that it breaks up the stone from inside to give it the perfection that comes with the name. You can recognize a good ruby from a bad one by looking at the color saturation. A good ruby will always have a high color saturation, which occurs due to the mixture of a red fluorescent emission and a bluish red body color.

We all relate to the ruby for the red glow but did you know that it is one of the rare and glorious accidents of nature. This red glow is the reason why ruby is so popular. In fact the Thai and the Cambodian rubies are purer versions of red, but they lack the fluorescence that some rubies are famous for. Most of the stones possess a certain degree of extinction but a fine ruby with its crimson fluorescence can mask it. Some of the best Burmese rubies glow with a red that is quite unfound and bathe in a red fluorescence that paints its entire glory right across the face of the stone.

The value of a ruby is determined by the intensity of the red color. So when you are buying a ring that has a ruby in it, the more intense the color, the more expensive it will be. The color will be intense without being too dark or too light. Another thing, you need to check while buying a ruby is the clarity. The general rule is that when you look into the stone, there should not be any inclusions. If there are any inclusions and it is visible to the naked eye then dont buy it. The third most important and decision making factor is the cut. You will find rubies in different shapes and styles depending on how they have been cut. The most common type of cut is the oval one but you will also find round ones and the emerald cut.

Apart from the imperial jadeite and some rare diamonds, ruby is next most expensive gem in the world. The best quality ruby comes from the following countries:

1. Mogok, Burma
2. Sri Lanka
3. Madagascar
4. Nanyazeik, Burma

So when you are buying a ruby ring, necklace or any high quality jewelry containing ruby, be rest assured that it will sparkle with an intensity that can be next only to your passion or love.

Omega Watches

Monday, June 14th, 2010

Omega is a luxury watchmaker, whose products are world-renowned for their beauty and superior quality and is based out of Switzerland. Louis Brandt founded Omega in 1848 at La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. Omega has been the preferred choice of some of the most influential people. You can regularly see, Presidents, actors and other popular icons with the Omega watch adorning their wrists. Initially parts for the key-wound precision pocket watches were purchased by Louis Brandt from the local craftsman. After the death of Louis Brandt, his two sons felt the need for an in house manufacturing process, which would help produce high quality merchandise. This served as a beginning for Omega’s prominence. In a short period of time, this enterprise became an industry standard.

How Omega Started

Monday, June 14th, 2010

Both of Brandt’s sons, Louis-Paul and C sar, passed away in 1903 bequeathing their Omega empire to four youths (the oldest being 23). At this time, 240,000 watches were produced each year by a staff of 800. The new owners, despite their youth, continued to expand the company and by the seventies, it had become the third producer of finished watches in the world (and number one in Switzerland). Unfortunately, Omega faced severe financial problems during the economic recession between 1975 and 1980 and had to be bailed out in 1981. There were talks of a potential buy out from Seiko, a competing watch manufacturer, but nothing came to fruition. Instead, after years of financial restructuring and company mergers, the Swatch Group was formed in 1998 and is now the sole manufacturer of Omega and other watch brands.

Panda Jewelry: an Eye on Our Endangered Wildlife

Sunday, June 13th, 2010

Thinking of an adorable motif to wear or give away to friends, but tired of cliches? Maybe you’ve bought too many ballerina figurines or puppy plushies. It’s time to experiment with a different theme. The idea of panda jewelry is a unusual and is associated with environmental and ecological issues.

If you want to distinguish yourself from the boring routine of giving away cute cuddly teddy bears or bear-motifed cards for Christmas or a birthday, opt for something different by considering panda jewelry. After all, bears are always cute — but pandas are exotic BESIDES being cute.

Pandas in accessories may be somewhat unconventional, but the unconventionality itself is sure to make this theme set a smash hit. The white-and-black theme that comes naturally to pandas is useful for every design. We all know how chic chiaroscuro (an italian term for an artistic rendering using only black and white) is “in” at any fashion era!

Besides, it’s really wrong to say that pandas aren’t “in” at all! Japan’s Tare-panda has achieved much mileage among young people since its creation in 1995. In 1999, Japan’s Seda magazine elected Tare-panda as the most popular toy of the year. The Tare-panda mascot, bug-eyed and cute, has found its way to various forms of merchandise — on bracelets and bags, t-shirts and notebooks, and even to cell phone charms!

Mobile phone charms are actually just among of the many examples of accessories where the panda jewelry motif would definitely “click.” Kids nowadays may be modern, but modern accessories need not adopt to a futuristic theme, or a fantastic one…in fact, panda jewelry may actually be useful in making young people more aware of the plight of the panda — specifically the Giant Panda, which is one of the more endangered species in the world today.

Cute and cuddly as they are, pandas are nonetheless beleaguered by very real issues. Encouraging more young people into wearing panda jewelry instead of regular bear jewelry may just help them become more involved in this cause.

Men’s Titanium Wedding Rings Shopping Guide

Friday, June 11th, 2010

Congratulations-You are getting married! Now that you have begun your search for the wedding ring of your dreams, you have some decisions to make, starting with the choice of metal. Titanium is the perfect choice for a wedding ring today. No other item of jewelry has played such important role in demonstrating affection as the wedding ring. Of the precious metals used to create wedding rings, titanium has merits that supersede gold or platinum in its beauty, quality and value that make it an ideal choice as the symbol of your love.

Why a Titanium Wedding Ring?

While titanium has been known to us for many years, it was originally used in aerospace and salt water projects, becoming widely used in commercial applications and now in jewelry designs during the last two decades. One reason why titanium rings are gaining in popularity, especially with men, is because of its strength that belies its light weight feel.

The style and design of your wedding ring aside, there are some practical reasons why choosing titanium makes sense. Because it is an inert metal, it is ideal for people with sensitive skin. This fact accounts for its use in the production of equipment and tools for medical procedures. You will never have to worry about damage from the elements to your titanium wedding ring, unlike silver, it will remain completely tarnish-free.

Whenever you buy jewelry, quality is always the primary concern. The wide spread use of titanium within jewelry industry confirms its quality and its market appeal. In respect to the purity of the metal itself, neither gold nor platinum can match titanium. Today, jewelry designers are using titanium for more of their work, taking advantage of titaniums beautiful grey sheen that rivals the look of platinum at a more affordable price.

How to Buy a Wedding Ring

A wedding ring is an investment that brings beauty and aesthetic pleasure. But keep in mind that there is a distinct difference between the shape of the hand of a man and a woman. Some are slender with tapered fingers. For this type of hand, a ring that is designed with a diagonal pattern works well, even with an array of stones. However if the hand is broad and fingers are very thick, a flat design, perhaps with contrasting bands could be a good starting point. With the variety of mens titanium wedding ring designs available, you are sure to be impressed. You can find solid titanium as well as titanium rings in combination with gold or platinum.

What to Look for When Choosing a Mens Titanium Wedding Ring

Be aware that just like gold, there are different grades of titanium on the market today. You will find many designs made from alloyed titanium, but if you want your wedding ring to be pure titanium, make sure you ask your jeweler for the CP grade of titanium of the ring you are interested in. Purchasing a titanium ring with a CP grade of 2 will prove to be a good investment.

Jade – Classic Quality Jewelry

Tuesday, June 8th, 2010

If I had unlimited funds I would spend a large proportion of it on objects made from jade, both artefacts and modern pieces. The subtle shades of green and lilac are what appeal to me. Jade jewelry is understated, rather than the in your face obviousness of many other stones.

Jade is an incredibly tough material, stronger than steel, and in pre-historical times was used for axe-heads, knives and weapons. It is only more recently that Jade’s beauty has led to its use in jewelry and fine ornaments.

There are two forms of jade, jadeite and nephrite. The two have very different structures, but exhibit similar properties. The structural differences do not affect the uses to which the jade is put, they are only significant to a collector of gems.

Jade comes in a range of colors, from the highly sought after emerald green of “Imperial Jade” to delicate pinks and lavenders. The emerald green color occurs because the stones contain a trace of chromium compounds. Other shades of green are due to the presence of iron compounds, while the pink and lavender hues are produced by manganese compounds.

Most people think of Chinese art when they think of jade, and rightly so; as early as 3000BC jade was called the Royal Gem in China. In China jade symbolizes wisdom, justice, compassion, modesty and courage.

Jade is also found in New Zealand and in Central America. It was treasured by Mayas, Aztecs and Maoris hundreds of years ago. The ancient Egyptians admired jade too, attaching the values of harmony and balance to the gemstone.

Modern jewelry tends to favor the lavender jade, perhaps because it is set off so well by silver and platinum settings. Jade bracelets, earrings and necklaces are all attractive to the modern eye, signifying good taste and expense just as much as sapphires and diamonds.

Horse Jewelry: Bold and Free

Monday, June 7th, 2010

A popular motif in jewelry, even among city dwellers, is horses. Horse jewelry is enigmatic and evokes a sense of strength as well as of mystery. Now one would have to ask: why horses? Why care about an animal rarely seen in the city anyway?

Horses symbolize freedom, and pride in freedom. Wild horses come with the connotation of spiritual and emotional independence. Have you ever seen or read “The Horse Whisperer” or “Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron”? Perhaps the snow-white horse named Shadowfax in the Lord of the Rings movies has evoked a sense of unbridled freedom in you? And yet, Hollywood has not even begun to touch on the importance of horses in ancient cultures. Far from being mere beasts of burden, horses were also trusted friends. Native Americans paid great respect to the horses they have domesticated, for they were useful in hunting and traveling.

Wearing horse jewelry is a celebration of independence, a rallying cry to break free from the bonds of society and be graceful, proud and natural.

It is a popular belief that the wild horse chooses its tamer. Alexander the Great’s horse, the celebrated Bucephalus, was known to be the wildest horse in his day: king of horses, unconquered by conquerors. And yet when the young Alexander cautiously approached him, Bucephalus calmed down and allowed the teenaged monarch to climb on his back. Together the two conquered cities, leveled fortresses, and built an empire — kindred untrammeled spirits faithful to each other until the end.

A driven, successful, hard-to-get professional woman may appreciate a gift of horse jewelry — in celebration of her strong, free-spirited nature. A young carefree lad may also benefit from horse jewelry, as an expression of virility and natural strength.

Horse jewelry comes in a variety of forms — from pendants to hairclips, brooches to bracelets, anything that catches attention! The flashier the better, or the more muted the more desirable, for people who gravitate to horses.
