Is your Landscaping Calgary looking like an empty canvass filled with potential?
After a hard day at work, it is nice to come home to a place where you can relax stress free.
Think of the echo of streaming water while sitting on your patio enjoying a warm Calgary Morning, with your family there by your side making the most of your amazing landscape.
Calgary is an interesting place to plan a landscape as we are subject to erratic weather. I think everyone in Calgary has gone outside after a good night’s sleep and seen a blanket of snow over their Backyard Landscape in May, June and sometimes even July & August.
Nonetheless, short season is not an issue if you want to create a paradise in your Calgary Landscape.
When planning your Calgary Landscape the first thing to do is decide on your budget and then fit your needs to your budget. Good Landscapers can be hard to come by in Calgary and the price of a good landscaper can certainly be reflected in the quality of their work. Just ask to take a tour of their Calgary Landsccapes.
It can be tempting to hire the cheapest landscaper in Calgary, I can assure you that you are asking for trouble if you choose this route when hiring a landscaper.
Calgary has seen a major boom over the last couple years. Trades alike (especially landscapers) have exploded, it seems that anyone with a shovel has started to call them self a landscaper.
An example of this is a few years ago I went to a quote in which a couple needed a giant retaining wall built in the Calgary area. They went ahead and got quotes from about 5 different landscapers. The quotes came in between $16,000.00 and $35,000.00. This is an absolutely enormous range for a landscaping project.
The Calgary couple ended up going with the low end landscaping quote. Guess what happened? Well, the Landscaping Company that they hired showed up with two workers and a couple of spades shovels. They spent 4 months working on a Landscaping project that would have taken a Calgary Landscaping Professional three weeks to complete.
Furthermore, the landscape was not excavated properly as they didn’t have the proper landscaping equipment to dig properly. Most Calgary Landscaping companies have in the very least a skid steer. This Calgary Landscaping job required a mini back hoe so that the grade could be excavated down to the clay. For most Calgary Gardener’s clay is a nightmare, but in this case, the high levels of clay in Calgary is great sub base for building.
Now back to the couple from Calgary. The two landscapers build the landscape wall with shovels, they took almost all summer to build the landscape wall. Once they were finished all of the landscaping a rain storm hit and caused the wall to break apart.Imagine that, the kids forgot to account for drainage. The stability of the landscape wall paid the price.
The Calgary couple took pride in their home and had it rebuilt. The costs to rebuild the landscape wall were about $5000.00 to un build what was done wrong and then they ended up hiring a Calgary Landscaper that knew what they were doing for around $30,000.00. This doesn’t include the extra summer that it took to get their project done.
Total cost: they ended up paying more for their Calgary Landscaping than if they had just done it right (with the high bidder) in the first place.
Anyways, I don’t want to scare you, because there are a lot of talented Calgary area Landscapers, but please, do your due diligence when hiring a landscaper.
I wish you all the best in your new landscaping project. Make sure you enjoy those warm Calgary Summers to it’s fullest!
