How can I construct a synthesizer filter?
Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010I am interested in getting into DIY. One thing I am wondering, all synthesizers have filters, how do they make them? can I go to an electronics distributor and buy a filter? Or do I have to construct the filter from lower level components. I know I am attempting to condense a complex subject, but any help would be appreciated.
If you want to get into DIY synthesizers you really should check both PAiA Corporation at http://www.paia.com and Blacet Research at http://www.blacet.com They both sell all kinds of analog synthesizer modules in kit form including some cool VCF’s (voltage controlled filters). The PAiA VCF for example is a dual VCF module with a built in LFO (low frequency oscillator). Also check out the Blacet links page for more ideas. They list a source for the CEM chips that are basically synth modules on a chip. You might want to look into them if you want to make your own filter from scratch.
