Weve all heard about them. Child prodigies who commence composing music at some absurdly young age. For instance, history states that Mozart was penning minuets by the time he was 5 years old. Astonishing. At 5 years of age, Im unsure that I could tell the significant difference between my finger and my thumb and I definitely wasnt writing music.
Now there is absolutely no doubt that the fact that Mozart was composing audio by the age of 5 doesn’t mean that any body else could ever compose music, but a number of studies performed over the previous 50 or so years indicates that many kids can begin creating songs as long as they are provided both instruction and possibility.
True, inside the vast majority on the cases the end result is not going to rival anything that Mozart released, but just because you (or your child) might not be the very best there ever was at crafting music doesnt mean the attempt isn’t worth the effort. If we follow that reasoning why would a kid learn to walk or run when he or she knows he could by no means walk or run at the same time as, say, Michael Jordan? Why would they learn to talk if they knew they could never speak at the same time as Bill Clinton or Ronald Reagan?
In the same way, just imagine if Mozarts parents had not provided him the possibility to be subjected to musicsongs and then the structured instruction that gave him the tools to begin creating music. The world would be a poorer place with out the insight of this musical genius.
In Mozarts situation, he began formal instruction on the keyboard at the age of four and within a year he was creating songs although Im sure that it wasnt on the caliber of his later works. In the case of the average kid, however research projects have shown that if given the possibility and also the education (i.e. instruction on an instrument, a little bit of songs theory, etc) average children can begin writing music anywhere around the age of nine.
Give your baby the chance and training he or she needs to begin composing music. In most cases it will develop their mind, round out their education, and give them a creative avenue. Eventually, on the other hand, of all the young children writing songs who may not have otherwise, the next Mozart will spring and if its your little one, the world will thank you. And if not, at least your kid has been exposed to some good songs and had his or her mind stretched a bit.
I am extremely fortunate that my parents had the very good sense to present me to music by way of piano coaching starting when I was around 7. And even although it didn’t “take” until I was a young teenager, when it did I had the foundation in songs theory and technique to where I could advance rapidly from then on. And while I’m a long way from Mozart’s class, I do well enough to enjoy my self and make a living in songs.
